Description

Texas Trash Dip is a creamy, cheesy, and flavorful layered dip perfect for parties and gatherings. Combining smooth cream cheese, sour cream, savory refried beans, zesty taco seasoning, spicy green chiles, and plenty of melted cheddar cheese, this dip is baked to perfection and served warm with tortilla chips for a crowd-pleasing appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 8 ounces Cream cheese
  • 1 cup Sour cream
  • 1 package Taco seasoning
  • 2 cans Refried beans

Additional Ingredients

  • 4.5 ounces Green chiles (drained)
  • 4 cups Shredded cheddar cheese (divided)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Soften Cream Cheese: Place the cream cheese in a large, microwave-safe bowl and microwave it for 15 seconds to soften it slightly for easier mixing.
  3. Mix Base Ingredients: Using a hand mixer, whip the softened cream cheese until smooth. Then add sour cream, taco seasoning, and refried beans to the bowl and mix thoroughly with the hand mixer until well combined.
  4. Add Chilies and Cheese: Stir in the drained green chiles and 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese using a spoon, ensuring an even distribution throughout the bean mixture.
  5. Assemble in Baking Dish: Spread the prepared bean mixture evenly into a greased baking dish, then sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Bake the Dip: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes or until the cheese on top is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve Warm: Remove the dip from the oven and serve warm with your favorite tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • Use a greased baking dish to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  • For extra spice, consider adding diced jalapeños or hot sauce to the bean mixture.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • For a lighter version, use reduced-fat cream cheese and sour cream.
  • This dip pairs well with tortilla chips, sliced veggies, or crackers.
