Ingredients
Scale
Sliders
- 18 King’s Hawaiian brand sweet rolls (from two 12-count packages)
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1-1¼ pounds deli sliced roast beef (no more than ⅛ inch thick or sandwich sliced)
- 10 slices non-smoked provolone cheese (approximately â…› inch thick, from an 8-ounce package)
Sauce
- ½ cup salted butter
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1½ tablespoons bottled barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s Original used)
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven. Set your oven to 350°F to ensure it is at the right temperature for baking the sliders evenly.
- Prepare the rolls. Slice the King’s Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, separating the tops from the bottoms. Arrange all the bottom halves snugly in a 9×13-inch baking dish to form the slider base, and set the tops aside for later.
- Spread mayonnaise. Apply a thin, even layer of mayonnaise onto the bottom roll halves in the baking dish to add moisture and flavor.
- Add roast beef. Layer 1-2 slices of deli roast beef on each bottom roll. Fold the slices as needed to fit neatly on each roll, which will help keep the sliders easy to separate when serving.
- Layer cheese and tops. Evenly distribute the slices of provolone cheese over the roast beef. Next, place the tops of the rolls onto the cheese layer, pressing gently to form compact sliders that will heat thoroughly.
- Make buttery sauce. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir in Dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, poppy seeds, and Worcestershire sauce. Let the mixture cook for 2-3 minutes until it boils, then remove from heat.
- Coat the sliders. Pour the warm butter sauce evenly over the assembled sliders in the baking dish. Optionally, use a pastry brush to spread the poppy seeds evenly on top for extra flavor.
- Bake covered. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes to melt cheese and warm ingredients through.
- Bake uncovered. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 5-10 minutes until the tops are lightly browned and the cheese is fully melted, creating a golden crust.
Notes
- For best results, use thinly sliced roast beef (no thicker than â…› inch) to ensure the layers are juicy but not overwhelming in each slider.
- King’s Hawaiian rolls provide a slightly sweet contrast that complements the savory beef and tangy sauce; substitute similar sweet rolls if unavailable.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the butter sauce.
- These sliders can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to baking time if baking from cold.
- Leftovers reheat well in a covered baking dish at 350°F to maintain moisture and prevent drying out.
