Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Loaded with tender roast beef, sautéed onions and bell peppers, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone, this dip is baked until bubbly and golden, making it perfect for game day, parties, or any crowd-pleasing occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat (sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces)
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 large green bell pepper (chopped)

Dairy and Cheese

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (chopped into ¼ inch pieces, or substitute with 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)

Seasonings and Garnish

  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • Fresh parsley (finely chopped, for garnish)
  • Green onion (sliced, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃). Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set it aside to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until it is lightly caramelized. Then, add the chopped green bell pepper and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender, stirring occasionally.
  3. Mix Cheeses and Cream: While the vegetables cook, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese in a medium-sized bowl. Stir these ingredients together until they are evenly combined, forming a creamy cheese base.
  4. Add Meat and Seasonings: Add the chopped roast beef, sautéed onions and peppers, salt, and black pepper to the cheese mixture. Stir everything thoroughly to blend all flavors evenly. Optionally, reserve a tablespoon of the meat and vegetables for garnish.
  5. Assemble the Dip: Spread the combined dip evenly into the prepared baking dish or skillet. If you reserved any meat and vegetables, distribute them over the top for a decorative touch.
  6. Bake the Dip: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until the dip is hot and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake for another 2-3 minutes to brown the top slightly.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Notes

  • The roast beef deli meat can be substituted with cooked thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin for a more authentic cheesesteak flavor.
  • Be sure to use softened cream cheese at room temperature to ensure the dip mixes smoothly.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce to the mixture.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • If you prefer, use Swiss cheese in place of provolone for a slightly different cheesy profile.
