Description

This homemade strawberry sorbet is a refreshing and naturally sweet frozen treat perfect for hot days. Made with fresh strawberries, a simple sugar syrup, and a touch of lemon juice, this sorbet balances tartness and sweetness beautifully. The sorbet is easy to prepare, requiring no complicated ingredients or techniques, and yields a smooth, fruity dessert with a delightful texture from small strawberry chunks.

Ingredients

Scale

Strawberries

  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved

Syrup

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

Other

  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the strawberries: Rinse the fresh strawberries thoroughly, remove their hulls, and slice them in half to get them ready for blending.
  2. Blend the strawberries: In a blender or food processor, combine the prepared strawberries with the granulated sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Blend until smooth, but leave some small chunks of strawberries for added texture.
  3. Make the sugar syrup: In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the sugar and water. Stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved, forming a clear syrup. Remove from heat.
  4. Combine mixture: Pour the sugar syrup into the blended strawberry mixture. Add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors and stir to combine everything evenly.
  5. Chill the mixture: Cover the strawberry mixture and refrigerate it for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to cool thoroughly.
  6. Freeze into sorbet: Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until the sorbet is firm and smooth. Alternatively, pour it into a shallow dish and place in the freezer, stirring every 30-45 minutes until it becomes firm, about 3-4 hours.

Notes

  • Using fresh, ripe strawberries will yield the best flavor in your sorbet.
  • If you don’t have an ice cream maker, stirring the mixture periodically in a shallow dish while freezing prevents large ice crystals and improves texture.
  • You can adjust the sugar quantity based on the sweetness of your strawberries or personal preference.
  • The lemon juice not only adds brightness but also helps maintain the sorbet’s vibrant color.
  • Store leftover sorbet in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a week for best texture and flavor.
