Description

These savory Gravy-Stuffed Stuffing Muffins are a delightful twist on classic stuffing, packed with rich, flavorful gravy baked inside individual muffin portions. Perfect for serving alongside turkey or as a hearty side dish during holiday meals, they combine moist, seasoned stuffing with a savory gravy center that oozes with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Stuffing:

  • 4 cups seasoned bread stuffing mix
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Gravy:

  • 1 cup turkey or chicken gravy
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for thickening, if needed)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the stuffing mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onion, celery, and garlic in melted butter until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes. In a large bowl, combine the sauteed vegetables, stuffing mix, dried sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Gradually add chicken broth, stirring until the stuffing is moist but not soggy.
  2. Prepare the gravy filling: Warm the gravy in a small saucepan. If too thin, whisk in butter and flour and cook until it thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes. Let it cool slightly before using.
  3. Assemble the muffins: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a standard muffin tin. Press about 2 tablespoons of the stuffing mixture into the bottom and up the sides of each muffin cup to create a hollow center. Spoon a tablespoon of warm gravy into the hollow, then cover with another 2 tablespoons of stuffing to seal the gravy inside.
  4. Bake the muffins: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the stuffing is golden-brown and cooked through. Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before carefully removing the muffins from the tin.
  5. Serve: Serve the stuffing muffins warm as a savory side dish alongside roasted meats or enjoy them as a flavorful snack.

Notes

  • Make sure the gravy is not too hot when stuffing the muffins to avoid making the stuffing soggy.
  • You can use leftover stuffing and gravy recipes for this dish for zero waste.
  • These muffins can be made ahead and reheated in the oven for 10 minutes.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute vegetable broth and vegetarian gravy.
  • Add cooked sausage or mushrooms to the stuffing for added protein and flavor.
