Description

Decadent Aate Ka Halwa is a warm, comforting Indian dessert made from whole wheat flour, ghee, sugar, and aromatic cardamom, enriched with crunchy nuts. Perfect as a soul-satisfying treat, it combines the rich nuttiness of roasted flour with the sweetness of sugar, creating a smooth, luscious dessert that’s simple to prepare in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Halwa Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons Ghee (Provides richness and moisture; substitute with butter if needed.)
  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour (Aata) (Ensure it’s fresh for the best flavor.)
  • 2 cups Hot Boiling Water (Helps create a soft, smooth texture.)
  • 3/4 cup Sugar (Can substitute with jaggery or brown sugar.)
  • 1 teaspoon Cardamom Powder (Optional but recommended for authentic taste.)
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Nuts (Almonds, Cashews) (Other nuts like pistachios can also be added.)

Instructions

  1. Melt Ghee: In a non-stick pan, melt the ghee over medium-low heat to prepare the base for roasting the flour.
  2. Roast Whole Wheat Flour: Add the whole wheat flour to the melted ghee and stir continuously for about 5-7 minutes until the flour turns a golden brown color and emits a nutty aroma.
  3. Add Boiling Water: Gradually pour in the hot boiling water while stirring constantly to prevent any lumps and create a smooth mixture.
  4. Cook Until Semi-Solid: Continue stirring the mixture over heat until it thickens to a semi-solid consistency and you notice the ghee beginning to separate from the halwa.
  5. Add Sugar: Mix in the sugar thoroughly and stir until the sugar fully dissolves and blends into the halwa.
  6. Flavor and Garnish: Stir in the cardamom powder and chopped nuts to infuse the halwa with fragrance and crunch.
  7. Final Cooking: Cook the halwa for an additional 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the texture to set, then serve warm, garnished with extra nuts if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh whole wheat flour for the best flavor and texture.
  • Maintain medium-low heat to avoid burning the flour during roasting.
  • For a healthier alternative, substitute sugar with jaggery or brown sugar.
  • Ghee can be substituted with unsalted butter if preferred.
  • Serve warm to fully enjoy the rich flavors and soft texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; reheat before serving.
