Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups sour cream (light sour cream can be used)
Herbs and Seasonings
- 1 packet (about 1 ounce) dry onion soup mix
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (or 1 teaspoon dried chives)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional Garnish
- Chopped green onions or additional fresh herbs
Instructions
- Mix Cream Cheese and Sour Cream: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Use a spoon or electric mixer to blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy, ensuring no lumps remain.
- Add Seasonings and Herbs: Stir in the dry onion soup mix, chopped parsley, chopped chives, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute all flavors throughout the dip.
- Chill the Dip: Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap or transfer the dip to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld and the dip to firm up slightly for the best texture.
- Serve and Garnish: Before serving, stir the dip again to recombine. Garnish with chopped green onions or additional fresh herbs if desired to add color and extra freshness.
Notes
- For a lighter version, use light or fat-free sour cream and reduced-fat cream cheese.
- Allowing the dip to chill overnight enhances the depth of flavor.
- Serve with fresh vegetables, chips, crackers, or bread for dipping.
- Can be made a day ahead and stored covered in the refrigerator.
- Adjust salt and pepper according to taste, especially if using salted onion soup mix.
