Combining smooth cream cheese and tangy sour cream with a savory dry onion soup mix and fresh herbs, this dip offers a delightful blend of creamy, tangy, and herbal flavors. It’s easy to prepare, requiring no cooking, and benefits from a chill time to let the flavors meld beautifully.

Ingredients

Scale

Dip Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups sour cream (light sour cream can be used)
  • 1 packet (about 1 ounce) dry onion soup mix
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (or 1 teaspoon dried chives)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: chopped green onions or additional fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Mix Cream Cheese and Sour Cream: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream. Stir or beat until the mixture is completely smooth and creamy, ensuring there are no lumps.
  2. Add Seasonings and Herbs: Stir in the dry onion soup mix, chopped parsley, chives, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute all the flavors throughout the dip.
  3. Chill the Dip: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and place it in the refrigerator. Allow the dip to chill and flavors to meld for at least 1 hour before serving.
  4. Serve and Garnish: Before serving, give the dip a good stir to recombine any settled ingredients. Garnish with chopped green onions or additional fresh herbs if desired, then serve with your choice of chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use light sour cream and reduced-fat cream cheese.
  • Prepare the dip a day ahead to enhance the flavor melding.
  • Adjust salt and pepper to taste, especially if your dry onion soup mix is salty.
  • Serve chilled and keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
  • This dip pairs well with potato chips, pita chips, fresh vegetable sticks, or toasted bread slices.
