Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- ¾ cup sugar cookie mix
- 1 package gold sprinkles (or any preferred color)
Wet Ingredients
- 16 ounces Wilton’s Green Icing
Other
- 2 gallon-size zip-top baggies
- parchment paper for drying
Instructions
- Prepare the cereal: Measure out 6 cups of Rice Chex cereal and place it in a large mixing bowl, ensuring the cereal is evenly spread for coating.
- Mix the dry coating: In one of the gallon-size zip-top bags, combine ½ cup powdered sugar and ¾ cup sugar cookie mix, then set the bag aside for later use.
- Melt the green frosting: Spoon 16 ounces of Wilton’s Green Icing into a microwave-safe bowl and melt it in 20-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth and fully melted.
- Coat the cereal: Pour the melted frosting over the Rice Chex cereal and gently fold the mixture using a spatula or spoon, making sure all cereal pieces are evenly coated with the green frosting. Mix in the gold sprinkles thoroughly.
- Shake to coat: Transfer the frosting-coated cereal into the prepared zip-top bag containing the powdered sugar and sugar cookie mix. Seal the bag tightly and shake vigorously until every piece is fully coated with the sugary dry mixture.
- Dry the puppy chow: Spread the coated mixture out evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it dry completely to prevent sticking and ensure a crunchy texture.
- Garnish and serve: Optionally, sprinkle additional gold or colorful sprinkles on top before serving for an extra festive touch. Enjoy your Saint Patrick’s Day Puppy Chow!
Notes
- Ensure the frosting is melted smoothly to avoid clumps in the coating.
- Use parchment paper to prevent the puppy chow from sticking during drying.
- Shake the bag well to ensure an even coating of the sugar cookie mix and powdered sugar.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
- This treat is perfect for parties, gifts, or a festive snack throughout March.
