Beef Marinade
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
Noodles and Vegetables
- 8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (any color)
- 1/2 cup snow peas (optional)
- 3 green onions, sliced for garnish
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Add the thinly sliced flank steak and toss to coat evenly. Let it marinate for 15 minutes to absorb the flavors and tenderize the meat.
- Cook the Noodles: Prepare the lo mein noodles according to package instructions. Once cooked, drain thoroughly and set aside to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon sugar, minced garlic, and minced ginger until smooth and well combined.
- Stir-Fry the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until it is browned but not overcooked. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. Add shredded carrots, broccoli florets, sliced bell peppers, and snow peas. Stir-fry the vegetables for 3 to 4 minutes until they are tender-crisp and vibrant in color.
- Combine Everything: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Add the cooked noodles and pour the prepared sauce over the mixture. Toss everything together for 2 to 3 minutes on medium heat, ensuring the noodles and ingredients are evenly coated and heated through.
- Garnish and Serve: Transfer the Beef Lo Mein to serving plates. Garnish with sliced green onions for a fresh burst of flavor and serve hot for the best taste experience.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha to the sauce.
- Snow peas are optional but add a nice crunch and sweetness; feel free to substitute with snap peas or omit if unavailable.
- Use fresh ginger and garlic for the best flavor impact.
- You can substitute flank steak with sirloin or ribeye for a different texture.
- Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; reheat gently to maintain texture.
